General entry rules

  • All entries must be supplied in line with the How to Enter and Submission Formats sections.
  • The judges reserve the right to re-allocate entries into other categories where they feel necessary.
  • The judges also reserve the right to remove categories that aren’t strong enough to have work nominated. These entries will not be refunded as they will have been judged accordingly with the rest.
  • The organisers reserve the right to retain entries for subsequent publication/exhibition in relation to the awards.
  • No feedback will be given relating to individual entries.
  • The judging panels decisions is final.
  • If you do not abide by the rules, which results in a cost to the organisers, then the submitting company is liable for costs.
  • Each entry must be treated as a separate entry and paid for accordingly.
  • Entering work is at your own risk. Except for high value samples, entries cannot be returned. To discuss a return, please contact us in advance.
  • Whilst every care will be taken in the storage of entries, the organisers will not accept responsibility for loss or damage of entries.
  • All entries submitted should conform to the British Codes of Advertising and Sales Promotion. Any entry that has a complaint upheld against it by the Advertising Standards Authority will be disqualified.
  • Once entries are submitted, they will go forward for judging and cannot be amended.
  • Entries must be paid before the judging date. Entries not paid for will be taken out the judging process and therefore, the awards.
  • After judging, entries cannot be withdrawn and refunds cannot be given.

Category rules

  1. ITEM OF SELF PROMOTION Work in this category must have been designed for the submitting company by the submitting company.
  2. LIGHTING This category is open to architectural lighting design projects that include exhibitions and event installations that were in excess of 3 days in duration or installations that were used or erected in more than one location and open to the public in excess of 3 days.

    The lighting design projects shall either be the work of a designer based in Scotland or for a client based in Scotland, but may be for projects sited anywhere in the world.
  3. INTERIOR DESIGN May be a commercial, leisure, retail, residential or domestic interior.
  4. REGENERATION Projects in this category should be an environmental scheme, building project (new build or upgrade of an existing building) or a programme of new signage or artworks and should form part of a wider plan for the area’s physical and economic social regeneration.
  5. AFFORDABLE HOUSING Affordable housing relates to homes provided by local authorities, housing associations, private developers and individuals and includes housing for rent and subsidised home ownership projects.
  6. LEISURE/CULTURE BUILDING OR PROJECT This category includes Leisure / Culture buildings such as; sports facilities, theatres, arts centres, etc.
  7. HEALTH BUILDING Health covers hospitals, medical facilities, etc.
  8. EDUCATION BUILDING OR PROJECT Education covers schools (public and private), universities, colleges, etc.
  9. RETAIL BUILDING OR PROJECT Retails category covers individual shops as well as retail outlets and shopping centres.
  10. PUBLIC BUILDING Can be publicly funded or for public use.
  11. FUTURE BUILDING OR PROJECT This project can be in a proposed state meaning not under construction but still in the planning stages. It is also for buildings and projects under construction which have not been yet completed.
  12. RE-USE OF LISTED BUILDING This category will reward a project for excellence in the sphere of conservation, restoration or adaptive re-use and should involve a listed building.

    Submissions should include information about the condition of the building before the work was undertaken, a short statement about the building’s significance and a description of the intention behind the works undertaken.
  13. PUBLIC REALM/LANDSCAPING Covers hard and soft landscaping.
  14. MASTER PLANNING Judges will look for excellent masterplan design and evidence that the location, orientation of the buildings, the activities that they contain and the design of the surrounding space formed a critical component of the brief and proposed/complemented project. It is also important to make evident how people have primacy in proposals.

    For the purpose of these categories, masterplan is analogous to the development plan, design famework, development framework etc.
